Our History

Our History

Since 1976, FamilyWise has been keeping children safe and helping families lead stable, healthy, and productive lives.

From the Beginning

In 1976, FamilyWise Services (then known as Genesis II for Families, Inc.) began as the Criminal Justice Project through a federal grant, becoming the first community-based corrections program for women in the state. We grew to build and sustain a range of programs that focus on the diverse needs of children and families. 2020 we merged with Minnesota Communities Caring for Children (MCCC), helping us expand our continuum of care to include statewide prevention programs, such as NEAR Communities, Tribal NEAR Communities, and support groups for parents, in addition to direct intervention programs, including High Fidelity Wraparound, PSOP (Parent Support Outreach Program), Bright Beginnings (young parent education and mentoring), and Supervised Parenting.

Our mission is to strengthen families by promoting the safety, stability, and wellbeing of children, and our vision is for a world where every child thrives.

As a multi-service, multi-cultural agency, FamilyWise focuses on nurturing children, families, and communities through culturally competent services. Our staff reflect the communities we serve through shared lived experiences and cultural background, and many can provide services in languages other than English. Our programs focus on natural supports, experiential learning, education, and a therapeutic approach with expertise in trauma-effective care.

We have offices in Minneapolis and St. Paul but have staff and programs located across the state.
